Dr. Amy Thorne, DO

Dr. Amy Thorne is a double board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic dermatologic surgeon. She has expertise in supportive oncodermatology, inherited cancer syndromes, hormonally driven dermatoses—such as those related to menopause, weight change, metabolic syndrome, and infertility—as well as psychocutaneous conditions, complex medical and cosmetic dermatology. Though Dr. Thorne completed a rigorous training program, she remains a student at heart and is most distinguished for a mutualistic commitment to her patients, who consistently remark on her generosity and kindness.

Dr. Thorne completed her dermatology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and holds additional training and credentials in occupational and environmental medicine, pedagogy, and literature. Her colleagues and patients have selected her for a number of leadership positions and awards of teaching excellence. With a strong background in diverse healing traditions, narrative medicine, and clinical innovation, Dr. Thorne has published extensively on cutaneous oncology, systemic disease manifestations, exposure-related skin conditions, and emerging dermatologic therapies.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Thorne remains committed to physician advocacy and expanding access to specialized dermatologic care in underserved and resource-limited settings. She has been actively involved in humanitarian medicine, accumulating over 30,000 hours of service, providing expert guidance on field surgery and dermatologic conditions linked to toxic exposures during migration, poverty, and war.

Dr. Thorne is a content expert in a variety of subjects and venues including medico-legal case review, veterans’ compensation and pension determinations, peer-review of surgical cases, as well as technical writing, editing, and ghostwriting in the fields of medicine, agriculture, social sciences, literature, and film.
